SOLVED: Docking Station won’t Charge Laptop

Does your Docking Station fail to charge your laptop? Then you need to engage in troubleshooting both the docking station and the laptop. Follow the steps mentioned below to fix docking station won’t charge laptop issue.

  1. The first and foremost thing is, you need to check the AC adapter that is used for powering up the dock.
  2. Check whether you have plugged the charging cable into the AC adapter firmly without damaging the pin.
  3. Turn off the laptop and connect it to the docking station.
  4. When connected to the docking station, turn on the laptop and press the F2 key until the logo (DELL, HP, or Lenovo) appears on the screen.
  5. It will direct you to the System Setup window.
  6. Navigate to the Battery Info section and check the battery charge status as well as the AC adapter wattage.
  7. Verify whether you are using the correct AC adapter that suits your docking station.
  8. It is always recommended to use the AC adapter that comes along with the docking station.
  9. Remove and reconnect the AC adapter to a different electrical outlet to check if the LED on the docking station is flashes solid green or white.
  10. If you find the problem is with the AC adapter, it is advised to replace it with a standard one.
  1. If the LED flashes correctly, update the BIOS to the latest version to make the adapter recognize the docking station.
  2. If the problem persists, remove and reinstall the battery drivers on your laptop.
  3. On your Windows laptop, click the Start menu and type “device manager” in the search panel.
  4. From the search result, give a double-click on the Device Manager option.
  5. In the Device Manager window, click on the Batteries option to expand. 
  6. Give a right-click on each battery driver beneath the Batteries option.
  7. Select the Uninstall device option from the pop-up menu.
  8. Now, power off your laptop and remove the battery.
  9. After a few minutes, reinstall the battery and restart your laptop.
  10. Now, the battery drivers will be installed automatically.
  11. Check if you could charge the laptop when attached to the docking station.
