How To Install Ubuntu From USB

Step 1

  1. Launch your preferred web browser.
  2. Visit the official Ubuntu website, navigate to Download -> Ubuntu Desktop, and click 18.04 LTS.
  3. Once done with downloading, you will see the Opening ubuntu dialog box.
  4. Select the radio button next to the Save File option and click OK.

Step 2

  1. Download the Rufus tool and open it.
  2. Fill the required fields with the relevant information.
  3. Select the checkbox next to the following options.
  4. Quick format
  5. Create extended label and icon files
  6. Check device for bad blocks
  7. Click the Start button.
  8. Select the radio button beside the ‘Write in ISO image mode (Recommended)’ option and click OK -> OK.

Step 3

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into the USB port.
  2. Turn on your computer or laptop and then press the F12 key on the keyboard.
  3. Select the USB Storage Device option.
  4. Choose your desired language and then click the Install Ubuntu button.
  5. Select your keyboard layout and click the Continue button.

Step 4

  1. Select the radio button beside the ‘Connect to this network’ option.
  2. Choose your wireless network name.
  3. When prompted, provide the wireless network key in the Password field and click Connect -> Continue.
  4. Select the Normal Installation option.
  5. Also, choose both the Download updates and Install third-party software options.
  6. Click Continue to proceed.

Step 5

  1. Choose your preferred installation type and click the Install Now button.
  2. Note: If you are an advanced user, select the Something else option.
  3. When you see the ‘Write the changes to disc’ dialog window, click the Continue option.

Step 6

  1. Your location will be detected automatically.
  2. Check if the detected location is correct and then click Continue.

Step 7

  1. Now, the ‘Who are you’ window will open.
  2. Enter your full name and the name of your computer in the Your Name and Your Computer’s Name fields, respectively.
  3. Create your username in the ‘Pick a username’ field.
  4. Create your password in the ‘Choose a password’ field.
  5. Reenter the password in the ‘Confirm your password’ field.
  6. Select the Continue option.

Step 8

  1. You will see the ‘Welcome to Ubuntu’ message on the screen.
  2. Note: The Ubuntu installation might take a few minutes. It depends on the speed of your computer and the network connection.
  3. Wait until you see the Installation Complete dialog box.
  4. Select the Remove Now option.
  5. After the restart, remove the USB flash drive when you see a prompt message.
