Updating the BIOS

  1. To download BIOS updates, find the specific serial number on your laptop. Open the ‘Software & Driver Downloads’ webpage. Navigate to the product page. Refer to our user manual to find the exact product number of your device.
  2. Choose the Operating system version installed in your laptop. Click submit. The website redirects you to the BIOS update page. Select the appropriate BIOS version. Click download. If the BIOS update is not displayed, then the latest version is already installed on the device.
  3. Open the downloaded file. Follow directions displayed onscreen. Click the ‘More details’ option. It displays the overview, installation steps, and system requirements for the BIOS update. The BIOS image file is saved to the laptop. Install the BIOS update.

Recovering the BIOS

  1. Recovering the BIOS is done when: UEFI partition on the hard drive is deleted; HP_TOOLS volume is removed. To resolve this issue, download a replacement BIOS file. Steps to download the file is briefed in the guidebook.
  2. Use another system with an active Internet connection. Open a trusted website. Type tour product number in the search tab. Choose your model from the list displayed. Expand the ‘Software and drivers’ tab. Make sure that the displayed Operating system is similar to the installed one.
  3. Click BIOS. To view more information about the update package, click details button. Tap the download button. It is located next to the BIOS update file. Note down the destination path. Copy the file into a flash drive. Update the BIOS.

Creating and Using a Microsoft Recovery USB Drive (Windows 10)

Creating a USB recovery drive – Open the search tab. Enter ‘recovery drive’ and press the enter button. If the system prompts you to enter a password, fill in with the administrator password. The utility tool opens. Select ‘Backup system files to the recovery drive’ option and click the next button. Insert a USB flash drive into the USB slot of the laptop. Click the ‘Create’ button. About UEFI and the Startup Menu

Unified Extensible Firmware Interface is a firmware code. It is embedded in a chip on the laptop’s motherboard. UEFI provides functionality in addition to the BIOS. Features of UEFI: extra-ordinary graphic options, display system information, perform basic diagnostics, and display software programs from storage devices.   1. Installing the Latest Version of Windows 10

Automatic installation-Microsoft automatically notifies whenever there is an update available. Turn on the system. A pop up appears, displaying a ‘HI’ message. The message is followed by a set of screens that display the status of installation. As the installation gets complete, a ‘Let’s start’ message pops up. Follow instructions onscreen. The Windows 10 version is installed successfully. Manual installation-Open the search tab. Type Windows Update. Click Check for updates’ in the new page. The download commences. Restart the laptop once the download is complete. The update configures after the restart.


Windows 10 Product Activation
